The Wedding

Sep 1, 2009 by

As most of you know (how could you not?) my youngest step daughter got married this past Friday.   The day was perfect (with the exception of my new son-in-law’s stepmother pulling a nutty), the dinner was fabulous, the cake was Yummo, the Bride was BEAUTIFUL (an understatement) and the absolute best part was one simple line (besides the Bride and Groom saying “I Do!”)

According to the original plan, when asked “who gives this woman to be married?” Richard was supposed to answer “her parents and I do.”

But Richard’s ex-wife wanted something else…something more personal.  When she caught up with me and her daughter at the salon the day OF the wedding she suggested something that really just touched my heart and still gets me teary eyed.  And my step daughter agreed.

So when Richard was officially asked, “who gives this woman to be married?”

He responded, “Her MotherS and I do.” (See how one ‘S’ can change everything!)

(pass me a tissue please…)

There will be more pictures as soon as the “professional” ones arrive (my dad took the ones I posted) – and yes, you will see how two moms, one bio and the other step, stood together on either side of the beautiful bride.  Because it’s not about her and it’s not about me.  It’s about the bonds we build and the relationships we grow.

In five weeks, there will be another wedding – this time, it’s my oldest daughter, Jessica,  who is marrying her fine Irish lad.  And next July, it’s my oldest step daughter, Kelly’s turn.

I need a Red Bull and a Vodka Martini…(and have I mentioned that Junior will be graduating from high school and Richard is deploying next August?)
