Photographing a Special Wedding

Jan 2, 2011 by

Have you ever gotten a super fabulous gift? One that even long after you’ve gotten it you still feel giddy? Those gifts are few and far between…but I have one. Richard sent me a brand new Nikon D90 for my birthday. He spent months researching different digital SLR’s but the D90 is the only one that’s compatible with my old Tamron lenses.

I love photography. I love taking pictures. I love documenting life. And I’m really good at taking pictures of flowers…

and grand babies…

and wide open spaces…

Taking pictures of people, unless I’m catching life as it’s happening, is really really tough for me. I don’t know that much about lighting or distance or Fstop this or ISO that. I’m a point and shoot kinda gal…with an expensive professional looking camera.

But my ex-wife-in-law (that would be my husband’s ex-wife in case you’re scratching your head) asked me to “take a few pictures” of her wedding. Ok. Sure. Gulp. People move. Brides blink. I don’t know how to pose people to make them look their best. I paid attention to my friend (the real pro!) Jaime of Fotique when she did a photo shoot at my house and I’m telling ya – what she does is exhausting…”look here,” “eyes down,” “chin to the left,” “think of something dirty,” “don’t grit your teeth,” “shoulders back…”

All the while Jaime was talking to me, she was also rapidly firing off images. And she’s GOOD. I’m no where in her league.

But these are the images I captured of a beautiful bride on her wedding day.

Congratulations Cindy and Manny!
