Monday Morning Quarterback Chat

Jun 22, 2009 by

I have 13 minutes until noon…so let’s see if I can get this posted before morning is officially over.

coffeePour yourself a cup of coffee and tell me how your Father’s Day weekend went.  Did you see your step kids?  Did they do something nice for dad?  If they weren’t with you, did they call or send a card?

My plans with my dad have been rescheduled for another evening.  Which is fine because my dad knows he’s my hero and a lifetime of dinners, cards, thank you’s will never come close to how I really feel about my dad.  He knows this…and even though he felt bad that he had to cancel our plans, he knows how much I love him.

grillFather’s Day itself was more than Richard had hoped for.  I was in on the surprise from his kids and I pitched in the difference.  The New Mommy and my son-in-law thought it would be a great idea to get Richard a new grill.   Since I am a direct beneficiary of what gets cooked on the grill, I wholeheartedly agreed that it was a splendid idea!  The New Mommy made it happen with The Oldest and The Student.  I kicked in Junior’s contribution.

I took Richard out Saturday night while The New Parents picked up the grill and put it together.  Richard never even looked on the porch…so when all the kids were over Sunday morning, it was a big surprise for him.

Richard honestly thought I was the ring-leader for the gift…I smiled from the inside out when I let him know this wasn’t my idea and his three oldest kids contributed all but $25.  Seeing the look on his face knowing that his oldest son ponied up his fare share was priceless.  It may even be the dawning of a new understanding between father and son.

sweetpotfriesSunday afternoon we met with Richard’s extended family to celebrate with his Dad and Papa.  Only Bugaboo Creek could take a reservation for 14 people at exactly 2PM.   The best part for me was watching Richard with his kids…spending time with family…and eating sweet potato fries.

Despite the gray skies and constant drizzle, Father’s Day was awesome.  I hope your’s was, too.

I’m looking forward to reading this series of articles! I would love to do some work on analyzing my own behavior. What are the contributions I make to the scenario that cause more/bigger issues in this already existing dynamic? Knowledge is power and personal choice is the way to utilize that power. Bring on the self-discovery! Thanks Tool Box Girl!
