Recently, I went to listen to Deepak Chopra speak about the latest studies on the constant communication between the physical body and the world we live in. Deepak refers to the world as the “Quantum World” and the body as many “Processes” and it is in constant change and evolution within the Quantum World. Basically, you are not the person you were 5, 10, 15 years ago physically & biologically or even from the time you woke up this morning to the person reading this blog now!
These processes are always working towards homeostasis/harmony and each cell is continuously aware of the others and of the larger picture. Our body receives billions of “impulses” from our sense receptors, and these are interpreted by the brain as a 3D “perception of reality”, which in turn creates thoughts, emotions, and feelings….visible in the brain as neuro-peptides. Through the many processes one gets completely new organs and body! Most importantly, Deepak added that our Cellular Consciousness is the complete memory of all our experiences we have stored from the day of conception to now. WOW!
What does this mean? Just imagine this constant communication between the emotional and mental states and overall health when stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, guilt, irritability, resentment, revenge and anger arise from emotional trauma!!!
Anger triggers the body’s “fight-or-flight” response, creating hyper-arousal in the body in order to cope with a perceived crisis. Stress is a body’s response; the raising blood pressure, speeding heart rate, and stress depress the body’s immune system in order to focus on the threat of the moment. Over time, stress responses cause negative health effects. The physical body manifests emotional blockages leading to lower the functioning of organs, pains and muscle tension, exhaustion and other physical ailments.
How? Every time you mentally revisit or tell someone what happened over and over again you reinforce the stress response in the body.
Are you one who goes ritually for years to a psychotherapist but can’t get the story out of your mind, or a chiropractor and no matter how many times you were adjusted for a vertebral subluxation the pain or tension keeps coming back? Researchers are showing a link between prolonged anger or resentment and a host of heightened medical risks. Additionally, many who experience prolonged resentment seek to self medicate through alcohol, drugs, tobacco or unhealthy eating patterns which can lead to secondary health problems.
The most significant result shared by Deepak is how people increase their chances to manifest serious illnesses by 50% when they are not feeling loved, appreciated or were ignored, either by peers, at work or by their own family. Yet, when people surrounded themselves or connect even virtually with happy and positive peers, doing happy activities, they increase their life expectancy by 50%. As Louise Hay said it so wonderfully “The mind is just a tool and you are more than your mind- you only have control over your own thoughts” so better change them and think happy ones!
