Go Help Someone
Somewhere between Detroit and Las Vegas, flying at 32,000 feet, drinking my favorite cocktail and reading my favorite magazine, O Magazine, I decided to give it up and let it go…all of it. No, I wasn’t drunk or suffering from altitude sickness. I was inspired and I felt on top of the world.
Go Help Someone. I’ve been helping stepmoms on SMOMS since the summer of 2008. My stepmom mentor Cathryn Bond Doyle founded the site ten years ago, long before I became a stepmom. Due to personal reasons, Cathryn had to leave and I picked up her cross and bow. I can only hope I upheld her vision, her mission, and her goals. On the forum I discovered I was often repeating myself with the same tips, tools, and advice. Because of the constant repetition, I decided to create The Stepmom’s Toolbox. I wanted to provide one stop shopping for stepmoms – to connect them with the resources they need to thrive in their remarried families.
At the egging on encouragement of my good friend, Maureen Campiaola aka The Dare Coach, I started The Stepmom’s Toolbox Radio Show. Kind of funny, but the CEO of Diva Toolbox, Janet Powers, wanted me to do a Yoga radio show – (Ha! I am!) I bought 15 months of air time for the cost of 12 months and then promptly sat on the first three months with that deer in the headlights mentality. Who me? A radio show host? Right….
Besides helping other people, one of my passions is to collaborate with creative and energetic women. The Universe knows this. It’s written on every single one of my passion cards and strategically placed where I’m most likely to read them…yes, even my bathroom mirror. And that’s how I found my co-host, Erin Erickson. Not that she was on my bathroom mirror, but one day I was reading her blog and I realized she’d make a great counterpart, collaborator and partner in crime. What we do together is pretty amazing – the energy and the prosperity of good will flows through our shows. We go together like Bread and Butter, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Batman and Robin.
We want to help you. I want to help you. But as I go about helping others, I realize that not all of you want help. As much as I want to bring all my sister stepmoms to a place of peace and harmony, not all of you want to go. That’s okay because your life is your choice. When you decide to join me on the happy side of life, I’ll be here – at the Toolbox and on the Radio.
Love,
Peggy

Peggy — you’re one of the best partners in crime a girl could ever ask for. I’m so lucky to have come into contact with you.

Peggy, I am so grateful to have found your site; it has really forced me to growup and tame my “inner-two-year-old”. There are times when I’m being stubborn and don’t want to hear your advices but it doesn’t take away that fact that I know you’re right. I’m still learning and growing. Thanks.

I look forward to watching you continue on your journey and join you along the way.
I am so grateful for our time together
Peggy, that is a wonderful declaration about who you are and what you are a stand for. Like Erin I too am thrilled that I am collaborating with you to bring stepmoms and women in general to a place of peace and harmony with our WomenLikeMe program. And yes, life is a choice and may all of us get the wisdom to see that and know that life can be done differently when we are committed to change. xox Wilma

That’s a great realization! Isn’t it freeing to accept that you can’t help anyone who won’t help themselves and that it’s OK? Good for you, Peggy!

Dear Erin – You Rock!
Hi Jessica – I am glad to call you friend, too!
Dear Life of a Stepmoma – Thank you so much!
Dear Lisa – there really are those out there who don’t want to solve the problem, find creative solutions, take care of themselves, or become a better person. Their ego is in full control and they thrive on the drama, chaos, and the problems. I can’t help them until they themselves realize their life isn’t working. I promise to always take my laptop no matter where I fly to!! (BTW, vacation was BLISS!)
Hi Jenna! It is freeing to no longer do the same thing or say the same things over and over and over again expecting different results
Dear Nic – I am so pleased that we got to spend the day together before I left Las Vegas. Meeting you and your husband was the icing on top of my vacation! I look forward to the work we’ll do together!
xxxxoooo
Peggy

I can’t imagine anyone not wanting your help! You have been a gem and I am so glad to have found you! (and Erin and Wednesday!)
You have made me feel normal in a life where I thought perhaps I was going crazy. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that!
