Being Present
All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future and not enough presence. ~ Echart Tolle

I’ve read two of Eckhart Tolle’s books and he publishes a monthly column here in the local health magazine. Sometimes all I can do in the middle of a crazy-making storm is focus on being present, and most of the time that is all that is needed. When I first started reading him, and other similar writers/ philosophers I was very resistant. But as I studied more and more teachers from Jesus to Deepak Chopra to Carl Jung and I diversified my sources, I was able to see that this isn’t just New Age stuff. This is stuff that had been taught for centuries in many, many parts of the world. That’s not to say that all New-Agers are to necessarily be trusted. I think Rhonda Byrne and the Law of Attraction is one of those dangerous self-improvement prescriptions that focusses too much on material gain and not enough on our collective responsibility to on another, the earth and environment. Anyways, I could go on and on but I am really enjoying you posts and the conversations that they are starting. – G
Dear G – I’m just now reading Echart Tolle! Not that he’s new to me, but The Power of Now has been on my shelf for many moons and my guess is the time is right for me right now
I carry on a lot more of these types of conversations on my other blog, but somedays I feel compelled to share here. I am happy you are enjoying the conversations! I am, too
